To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before, June 2014

This June, Grizzly Grizzly presents ‘To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before,’ a dynamic, open-ended group exhibition featuring former members of the artist-run collective.  At Grizzly Grizzly, we don’t show our own work in the space, but founders and past members Vincent Colvin, Mike Ellyson, Steven Little, Matthew Alden Price, and Bruce Wilhelm are no longer bound by that restriction.   We’ve invited them in for an eclectic free-for-all that embodies Grizzly Grizzly’s anything-goes approach to art.

Founding member, Bruce Wilhelm is currently based in Richmond; he says he’s sending a box of bootleg t-shirts.  Bruce started the gallery with Mike Ellyson (now in Brooklyn), who has made some custom neon text pieces for the show, and Vincent Colvin (now in Texas), whose latest landscapes are a combination of drawing and painting.    Steven Little was also on-board in the early days; he’ll be sending a small painting from Brooklyn.  Matthew Alden Price is still based in Philadelphia; he’s made a series of enigmatic sculptures for the exhibition.

Since 2009, Grizzly Grizzly has been a project space where artists are free to experiment.  Members have always been artists curating artists.  To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before looks back on the recent history of the collective by opening up our doors to its founders.  We invite you to peer in and see how this group process informs individual creative practice in a sometimes messy, always interesting, way.
