Grizzly Grizzly is pleased to present "Extending In Both Directions", a two-person exhibition of drawings and photographs by Victoria Burge and Millee Tibbs that will run through March 29, 2014. Both Burge and Tibbs disrupt representations of landscape through sculptural sensibilities in mark making and photography.

Victoria Burge's drawings use maps, and systems of mapping, as their interior infrastructure. She plots invented connections and builds networks of possible trajectories by abstracting and subtracting the surface of the map through drawing, where the resulting landscapes become inbetween-spaces.

Millee Tibbs uses the American West as a starting point to interpret and confront cultural myths surrounding our relationship to this landscape. By using Origami techniques she creates sculptural relationships between formal geometries and natural spaces. Through this process the images are printed, folded and then re-photographed. As a result Tibbs offers images that are manipulated, while photographically recognizable.

Victoria Burge is an artist living and working in Philadelphia, PA. Her prints and drawings focus on the architecture of line as it relates to systems of mapping. Her works convey her explorations into memory, absence, and the multiple dimensions and implications of space, both human and scientific. Burge holds a degree in Horticulture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master of Fine Arts in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her work has been part of national and international exhibitions including shows at The International Print Center (NY), The Center For Book Arts (NY), The Kentler International Drawing Space (NY), The Print Center (PA), The Hunterdon Museum of Art (NJ), and Gallery Hasta in India. Press and publications include reviews in ARTnews and front cover illustrations for Delphinium Press and Conveyor Magazine. Burge's work can be found in corporate, private, and public collections including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The New York Public Library, and Hilton Worldwide. Burge is represented by Julian Page Fine Art in London and Aspinwall Editions in New York.

Millee Tibbs holds an MFA in photography from RISD. Her work derives from her interest in photography's ubiquity in our culture and the tension between its truth-value and inherent manipulation of reality. Tibbs' work has been shown at many venues including Blue Sky Gallery, the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Mary Ryan Gallery, and Winkleman/Plus Ultra Gallery. Her work is currently held at The Museum of Contemporary Photography, Portland Art Museum, RISD Museum, and the Pierogi 2000, Brooklyn flat file. She has been an artist-in-residence at the MacDowell Colony, the Jentel Residency Program, the Wassaic Project, Art Farm, the Stonehouse Residency for Contemporary Art, and the Santa Fe Art Institute. Tibbs' work has been published in The Collector's Guide to New Art Photography V.2 by the Humble Foundations, NY. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Photography at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
