This April, Grizzly Grizzly invites you to ‘Paradise,’ a solo exhibition by Baltimore-based artist, Susie Brandt. In this immersive, textile-based, installation, Brandt refashions a “cache of Aloha shirts” that have been “cast to heaven and revamped into trees of life.”
Susie Brandt’s witty and sophisticated work plays with ideas of kitsch, landscape, and human connection; weaving a complex blend of contradictions and correlations through found fabric. She says of her work,” I make things and make things up simultaneously. My preoccupations are: color and cloth, terrain and time, acts of gathering, systematic incremental building. I nod to the arcane, wink at the practical, and fidget with devotion.”
‘Paradise’ is dedicated to the memory of Peter Marvit.
Bio: Susie Brandt was raised at her parents’ ski-mountain in upstate New York. She left to study art and never went back. She now lives and works in Baltimore, MD.
